Lecture
  • Duration: 30 mins
  • Publication date: 06 Dec 2006

Abstract

This lecture, with many demonstrations, gives a fascinating insight into the world of Robots, and their place in both entertainment and in teaching. The lecture commences with a brief history of Robot wars, from San Francisco/Los Angeles street theatre to the sophisticated Battlebots in Las Vegas. Different types of robot technology are then explained and demonstrated. Numerous robots will be introduced and demonstrated during the lecture, including the well known Daleks from the Dr Who series, of which the lecturer has created one for the current film ‘Devious’. The main part of the lecture further explains the technology, and gives an insight into the use of Robots in teaching at all levels, from primary schools through to universities. At the conclusion of the lecture, two boxing robots will compete along with a robot referee, and there will be demonstrations of other Robots, including the very well known and successful “Bigger Brother”. Not to be missed
