Abstract
Born to Engineer – A campaign to inspire the engineering stars of the future Computer Engineer Andrew Robertson is working on a way to free live music from the tyranny of the backing track. The future of British engineering as one of economy's key drivers is under threat. Quite simply, we can't produce enough talent to fill the gaps. The UK trains 51,000 trained engineers each year but the industry needs an estimated 87,000 to meet projected demand. According to the Business Secretary Vince Cable, skills shortages are 'a massively serious problem' that could disrupt the UK’s economic recovery. In response the ERA Foundation has launched Born To Engineer, a campaign to inspire young people to become the engineering stars of the future. At the heart of the campaign is a series of high quality short films, each featuring an engineer with an inspiring story. There are four in the series so far and more in production.
