- Part of event Telemetry: Sharing cross-industry experiences
About the session
Anyone who has worked in the field of telemetry will appreciate its status as a niche function, sandwiched between the worlds of Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT), with a reach and status that extends far beyond the simple role of moving data to and from remote assets.
Telemetry engineers’ skills are not limited to data transmission (be that networking, wireless, GSM etc.), but extend to a detailed understanding of OT disciplines (such as control and instrumentation) on the one hand, to IT and analytics on the other.
This role as a bridge between the two very different words of IT and OT explains the difficulty that many organisations have in fitting telemetry into otherwise well-defined management and organisational structures – a situation exacerbated by the many forms that telemetry takes depending on the industry.
This niche status also presents problems for those working in the field, as the role of telemetry engineer in say the Aerospace Industry is quite different from that of the Water Industry. It is, therefore, the purpose of this event facilitate a forum where telemetry engineers from a wide range of industries and backgrounds can exchange ideas and technologies such as data logging communications systems, data cleansing and abstraction, analytics and security.
Although telemetry engineers are adept at exchanging information within their own industry sector, there are few opportunities, such as this, where professionals can learn from others who face different challenges and deploy markedly different telemetry technologies in response to these challenges.
Technical talks focus on:
Based around a team of four expert presenters, representing four very different industry sectors (Motor Sport, Utilities, Aerospace and Automotive), the day is designed to spark discussions and the exchange of ideas in the fields of sensor design, data transmission, and data consumption.
This event is not only an excellent opportunity to network with, and learn from, fellow telemetry professionals, but is also a platform for you contribute with your experience of how your industry tackles the problems and issues under discussion.
