About the session

The remote collection of real time vehicle information and the delivery of information to vehicles were once limited by the high cost of specialist equipment and the availability of cost effective communications techniques. The widespread and ongoing adoption of second and third generation mobile communications together with the availability of cost effective products now makes this all possible. Using acquired information to track vehicle and driver activities, monitor vehicle usage for insurance purposes and delivering entertainment and services to vehicles are all applications either in use or being considered. Real time vehicle information is a key enabler to a range of efficiency, cost and performance benefits for vehicle manufacturers, fleet managers and users in general. There is a well proven track record of using real time information for successful asset management in other industries such as utilities. This presentation looks at some examples of effective asset management from other industries and considers the application of similar techniques for vehicles.
