Abstract
The global population is expected to rise to 9.3 billion by 2050, with continued ecological burdens on our planet. Resources such as soil, water and commodity materials are already under stress. On a positive note, we are seeing changes in consumers behaviours when purchasing products, whether that be the use of reusable bags or water bottles. With that said, we still need more changes to happen by consumers, governments and businesses to reduce the danger on our environment and future generations. Governments have set out targets and laws to ensure net-zero goals are met, but we still need accurate measurement, rather than creative accounting. The manufacturing industry needs to deliver once-and-for-all-time change to dramatically reduce their impact on the environment. Engineers must work collaboratively with other disciplines to produce the solutions we need.
