About the session

Overview of the research being undertaken in the EPSRC Centre for Power Electronics Component Integration Theme

Recent developments in power semiconductors have led to renewed interest in the performance and characteristics of related passive devices for high performance, power dense converters. Higher switching speeds; end-of-life considerations; along with increased expectations for reliability and fault tolerance are leading designers to re-evaluate choices. At the same time availability of capacitors with enhanced capability over those previously available, and design approaches for inductors with increased emphasis on thermal management are providing more options.

This timely one day seminar with speakers from academe and industry will facilitate discussion of the requirements, challenges and demands placed upon passive components in both static converter and drives applications.

Accompanying the main program, over lunch there will also be opportunity to see poster presentations from post graduates working in some of the leading power electronics and machines research groups.
