Abstract
In this EngShort we look at #digitalTransformation in the #healthcare sector and creating an interoperable healthcare system. #Interoperability allows devices to interact with each other to provide services to users in a more efficient and effective way. This includes secure access to electronic patient health records by clinicians across GP surgeries, hospitals, ambulances and social care. This can help healthcare systems communicate better and share #data safely while ensuring confidentiality. However, there are many challenges including a lack of agreed standards and a shortage of technical skills. While the advantages of digital transformation may be clear in healthcare, the complexity and size of the #NHS and the sensitive nature of personal health information has slowed adoption. Do you think the benefits of interoperability outweigh the challenges? Comment below to let us know your thoughts on digital transformation in healthcare.
