Abstract
Engineering is transforming in a way that arguably hasn’t taken place since the invention of electronics. New global challenges, disruptive technology and recently-emerging sectors such as AI, cybersecurity and the Internet of Things make engineering an exciting place to be.
But innovation and new ways of working means a certain amount of risk-taking – which makes it more important than ever that our core values, ethics and competencies are supported in line with new technologies.
That’s why Peter Bonfield has worked with our business partners to produce a Concordat to help organisations show their commitment to valuing their engineers.
The Concordat will help organisations to:
Give greater purpose to professional registration and recognise the quality mark it brings
Ensure the profession is relevant and welcoming to engineers and technologists in all sectors
Demonstrate competency to society and eliminate bad practice caused by incompetence
Gain a more diverse and inclusive way of being
The IET has been engineering’s professional home for almost 150 years, and in this changing world, it has even more need to remain so. And will do so.
The world is changing: what’s our future?
