About the presentation
The presentation will focus on one of E.ON’s educational programmes aimed at inspiring young people about engineering. It aims to bring engineering careers in E.ON to life. The programme centres on a web based tool that is supported by class room activities. We have worked closely with education specialists and teachers to develop lesson plans and activities that will stimulate student’s interest and supports the curriculum. Whilst we are still developing the programme, we aim to support the Engineering Diploma, and GCSE Physics and Engineering. The programme centres on a virtual island and shows the energy journey from generation to the end user. Along this journey, specific engineering roles are identified. Students learn how these roles fit into the process and the kinds of issues they face. To support this, there are resource centres which provide detail on the theories discussed in the activities and supporting materials for teaching staff. There is a separate section for careers which will identify different engineering entry levels and show example career paths of people within our businesses. plugin2engineering links in with our Employee Involvement programme. There will be specific sessions developed where our staff can lead a classroom session to further bring the engineering roles to life. Staff will be supported by full in-house training and a range of supporting materials to use during their sessions.
