About the presentation

The 2012 IET Functional Safety Assessment Seminar explores the different approaches to compliance demonstration across the automotive sector, with a view to developing a level playing field of expectation in the industry sector. We will look at how the standard has addressed recommendations on safety cases and assessment from other industry sectors so that you are equipped with the knowledge of how to demonstrate compliance.
Experience with similar standards suggests tells us that there can be a significant variation in compliance approaches, ranging from a purely process-based approach to detailed assurance, through an explicit safety case, of vehicle systems. Clearly the rigor of compliance will affect the competitiveness with which a new product can be introduced. The particular characteristics of the product base will also affect the range of verification methods open to the industry.
