This lecture will focus on the design and installation of an extensive state of the art automation line in a food manufacturing factory, including aspects of overall strategic planning, engineering and hygienic system design.
Staff training and staff motivation are highlighted as vital issues in achieving a paradigm shift to advanced manufacturing procedures within the industry.
Furthermore, the successful outcomes are noted as indicators of what can be achieved by a carefully planned uptake of appropriate modern technology in what is currently the UK's largest manufacturing sector.
Simon studied Food Technology at Oxford Brookes University and joined M&amp;S on graduation. He has held a variety of food technology posts within the company. He has been involved in developing the M&amp;S cafes and opening the Simply foods in UK hospitals. He is currently responsible for developing innovation projects in the United Kingdom and the technical development of food in international territories.
