Morgan Sports Cars: Making a Successful Family Business, is a fascinating tour of history of the Morgan Motor Company, the 'First and Last' family owned sports car company in existence, Charles Morgan, the Grandson of the founder, HFS Morgan, will give a unique and personal insight into the 30 year cycles that have shaped a business and motoring legend. Concentrating on the four significant eras that have fashioned the Morgan business today and beyond, Charles will begin with 1909-1939, 'The Entrepreneur Era' and tell the story of HFS Morgan, the founding father and the self-made man behind the Morgan Motorcar, tracking his life from the beginning as the son of a Herefordshire rector to the chairman of a successful sports car company.
About the speaker
Charles Morgan, the third generation of the family to work in the company, joined the Morgan Motor Company in 1986 after a 10 year career in TV News culminating in a film made with Sandy Gall, 'Behind Russian Lines', the first documentary to penetrate occupied Afghanistan. After joining the Morgan Motor Company, Charles spent three years completing a part time MBA in Manufacturing Management at Coventry University. In an age of globalisation his work at the company has involved helping the company and the cars become competitive in the worlds marketplace. The addition of new technology and new models, notably the Aero 8, has been essential to this process. The successful future of the company depends on the development and training of the workforce to maintain the process of continuous improvement throughout the company. Most recently Charles has made headlines as the driving force behind the 'Aeromax' CoupT, a prototype coupT built for a private customer in Geneva, which will now enter production. He has also been appointed Director of the consortium formed for 'The LIFECar Project' which aims to make the first fuel cell sports car. In 1978 and 1979 Charles Morgan won the British Racing and Sports Car Club and British Racing Drivers Club production sports car championships driving a production Morgan Plus Eight. In 1997 and 1998 he competed in the FIA International GT series driving a factory prepared Morgan Plus Eight GTR. Charles is a member of 'Celebrity Speakers Limited' and is invited regularly to speak at functions, giving a huge variety of people from all walks of life the benefit of his knowledge and experience as head of the First and Lasto family owned sports car company. The company is presently approaching its Centenary celebrations in 2009. His interests and hobbies include skiing, together with the history of art and architecture. As an amateur he paints and draws.
