In this presentation, we will discuss the advantage of using digital technology in return path HFC architecture. After describing the technology we will review its advantages when compared to analog return technology. We will discuss in more detail the effect of higher order modulation, transition to DOCSIS 3.0 with channel bonding and wavelength multiplexing on the return. Finally we will discuss potential upgrade to the technology toward increased return bandwidth or increase number of multiplexed return channels.
